Sweden to Host the Inaugural European Sex Championship
It’s well-documented that regular sexual activity offers numerous health benefits, including physical fitness enhancement and overall bodily improvement. These benefits led to a unique question in Sweden: could sex be considered a sport? This query sparked an unprecedented initiative – the establishment of the world’s inaugural sex championship, initially at a European level, with future aspirations of reaching Olympic recognition.
The European Sex Championship is slated to take place in June, in the progressive city of Gothenburg, Sweden. Known for its emphasis on freedom and equality, Sweden is pioneering this unconventional approach, transforming intimacy into a sporting event. The event isn’t the brainchild of mere enthusiasts but a dedicated entity—the Swedish Federation of Sex. This organization has already established its official online presence.
The championship, spanning a few weeks, promises a celebration of sexuality and health. The daily itinerary allocates at least six hours to various activities. Depending on the discipline, each “match” ranges from 45 minutes to an hour, with 16 disciplines planned for the program. The roster includes seduction, massage, erotic massage, foreplay, oral sex, penetration, endurance, aesthetics, positions, creativity, timed orgasms, and artistry.
Some contest categories may seem ambiguous—for instance, competitions focusing on maintaining blood pressure and pulse during intercourse. Furthermore, an audience award will recognize the most charismatic and unique participants. In each discipline, participants can earn between 5 to 10 points, evaluated by a five-judge panel and the audience.
As one might expect, the competition eschews division based on sexual orientation, gender, and other societal norms. Dragan Bratić, President of the Swedish Federation of Sex, expressed in a press interview:
“While it might not be immediately clear, the concept is truly intriguing. We believe that our sport is one of the most demanding. It calls for more than just physical and psychological readiness. Athletes must bring creativity, emotional sensitivity, imagination to the table, followed by endurance and performance.”
In conclusion, the championship, now an annual event, is set to open new horizons in 2023, with applications from representatives of 20 countries. The ambition is to evolve and extend its reach globally. Notably, the USA has been hosting an ‘imaginary sex’ championship for several years. However, this event is poised to offer a more authentic and practical experience, transcending mere pretense.
